CONTRAST THERAPY BERLIN

CONTRAST THERAPY IN BERLIN — SAUNA & ICE BATH IN ALTERNATION

Contrast therapy means planned alternation of heat and cold. Here that's an infrared sauna, two ice baths at 0–2 °C and 6–8 °C, red light and a rest zone in one session — inside a listed 1893 horse stable. Address: Boxhagener Straße 96, 10245 Berlin.

What is contrast therapy?

Contrast therapy — also called hot-cold exposure or contrast bathing — is the deliberate alternation of heat and cold within one session. Classically: sauna or infrared sauna, then an ice bath or cold shower, then rest. The cycle is repeated two to four times.

The stimulus is vascular: heat dilates vessels, cold narrows them (vasoconstriction). Alternating trains thermoregulation and circulation — and leaves that calm, clear state many describe as a reset.

Protocol: times and temperatures

  • Heat: 10–15 minutes of infrared sauna, until you're clearly sweating.
  • Cold: 30–60 seconds for beginners, 1–3 minutes when experienced — at 0–2 °C; longer in the second bath at 6–8 °C.
  • Rest: 3–5 minutes between rounds, calm nasal breathing.
  • Rounds: 2–4 alternations per session is a sensible range.
  • End warm or cold? End warm after training if muscle growth is the goal; end cold if you want to leave awake and clear.

Effects — what's supported and what isn't

The acute cold response is well studied: noradrenaline release, increased alertness, and subjectively less soreness after hard training. Regular sauna use is associated with better cardiovascular health in cohort studies.

Blanket cure claims are not supported. Cold immediately after strength training can slightly blunt hypertrophy — if muscle growth is the goal, put the ice bath on another day or several hours later.

How a contrast therapy session works here

A Free-Flow slot in the Fire & Ice zone lasts 2 hours (120 minutes) and costs €27.50. Infrared sauna, both ice baths (0–2 °C and 6–8 °C), red light therapy, massage chairs and a rest area are included — you choose the order and number of rounds.

Please bring a towel and pool slides; swimwear is optional — textile-free or in swimwear, entirely your choice. Slippers are free of charge; a set of 2 towels and 1 kimono is available on site for €5 per visit.
